Organization
Postage stamps are archival materials. This is why they are generally organized in groups, with related materials cataloged together as one unit instead of separately. Usually, the primary reference tools for describing archival collections are collection-level catalog records and finding aid inventories. In this project, we chose to catalogue the material not only on the collection level and also on the item level. The chosen schema is the Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS) developed in 2002 by the Library of Congress. MODS is expressed using the XML schema language of the World Wide Web Consortium. It has many advantages: it is richer than the Dublin Core schema, it is simple and user oriented. The metadata provided is both descriptive and administrative. Copyright metadata is embedded within each record. The text on the stamps is both in arabic and french. So the metadata included 3 languages: English, French and Arabic to increase accessibility. |
